General Services Administration (GSA)

The U.S. government's central acquisition agency, operating the GSA Schedules and government-wide vehicles that channel a large share of federal buying.

Definition

The General Services Administration (GSA) is the central acquisition and management agency of the U.S. federal government. Among other roles, GSA runs the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) program and several government-wide acquisition vehicles, and it manages key acquisition systems and platforms (including SAM.gov and GSA eBuy) used across the government.

For contractors, GSA is often the practical on-ramp into federal sales. A GSA Schedule contract gives agencies a fast, pre-negotiated way to order your products or services, opening the door to ordering activity from hundreds of federal buyers without winning a separate full procurement each time.

How this affects your proposal

Identify the GSA category and Special Item Numbers (SINs) that match your offerings and target them. A competitive MAS offer rewards clear commercial pricing, strong past performance, and crisp, search-friendly catalog descriptions.

Common questions about general services administration (gsa)

What does GSA actually run for contractors?

Most relevantly, the Multiple Award Schedule program plus government-wide vehicles and the systems agencies buy through. GSA negotiates the terms and then federal customers place orders against them.

Can any federal agency buy off GSA vehicles?

Yes — the GSA Schedules and GWACs are designed for use across the federal government, civilian and defense, subject to each vehicle's scope and ordering procedures.
